Private car with driver
Da Nang to Hoi An by Private Car
The 30 km drive from Da Nang to Hoi An is the most-travelled route in Central Vietnam. A private car takes you door to door in about 45 minutes, with the option to stop at the Marble Mountains along the way.

Route at a glance
- Distance
- about 30 km (city centre to Hoi An)
- Driving time
- 40–50 minutes without stops
- Route
- Coastal road via the Marble Mountains
- Also works
- Hoi An → Da Nang and Da Nang Airport → Hoi An
Hoi An has no airport and no train station, so almost every visitor arrives by road from Da Nang. The usual route follows the coast south from the city, past My Khe and Non Nuoc beaches and the five limestone peaks of the Marble Mountains, before turning inland into Hoi An. The road is flat and well paved, and outside rush hour the trip rarely takes more than 50 minutes.
A private car makes the most sense when you have luggage, children or a tight schedule. The driver picks you up at your hotel or at Da Nang Airport and drops you at your accommodation in Hoi An. Keep in mind that the centre of Hoi An Ancient Town is pedestrian-only for much of the day, so if your hotel is inside the old quarter the driver will take you to the nearest point cars are allowed and help you with your bags.
Stops worth making between Da Nang and Hoi An
- 1
Marble Mountains (Ngu Hanh Son)
Five limestone hills with caves, pagodas and viewpoints, right beside the road about 9 km south of Da Nang. An hour is enough to climb Thuy Son, the largest peak, and visit Huyen Khong cave.
- 2
Non Nuoc stone-carving village
At the foot of the Marble Mountains, workshops carve everything from small souvenirs to large statues. It is an easy stop if you are already visiting the mountains.
- 3
My Khe and An Bang beaches
If you are travelling with time to spare, a short stop at My Khe in Da Nang or a detour to An Bang beach just north of Hoi An breaks up the trip nicely.
- 4
Cam Thanh coconut village
About 5 km from the old town, the water-coconut forest of Cam Thanh is known for its round basket-boat rides. It works well as a stop on the way into Hoi An or on a separate afternoon.
Which vehicle fits your group
Couples and small groups of up to three people with normal luggage travel comfortably in the 4-seat sedan. Families of four to six — or three people with large suitcases — should choose the 7-seat MPV, which has more room behind the last row of seats.
Groups of seven to sixteen, such as extended families or wedding parties heading to Hoi An, can travel together in the 16-seat Ford Transit or DCAR limousine. One vehicle is often cheaper per person than two smaller cars.

Good to know
- The same price applies in both directions, so you can book Hoi An → Da Nang Airport for your departure too.
- If you want to stop at the Marble Mountains, mention it in the booking note so the driver plans enough time.
- Hoi An is at its most atmospheric in the evening, when the lanterns are lit; an afternoon transfer lets you check in and walk into town at dusk.
- From roughly September to December, Central Vietnam has its rainy season; allow a little extra time on wet days.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to get from Da Nang to Hoi An by car?
Usually 40–50 minutes for the 30 km from the city centre or the airport. Allow more time at rush hour or if you add a stop such as the Marble Mountains.
Can the car drive into Hoi An Ancient Town?
Not into the pedestrian core of the old town. The driver drops you at your hotel or at the closest point where cars are allowed.
Can we stop at the Marble Mountains on the way?
Yes, it is directly on the route. Mention it when you book so we can confirm the timing and the total with you.
Do you also drive from Hoi An back to Da Nang Airport?
Yes. The route and price are the same in both directions, and we run transfers 24/7 for early and late flights.
Which car do I need for four adults with suitcases?
Book the 7-seat MPV. The 4-seat sedan has room for about two large suitcases, so four adults with luggage will be much more comfortable in the bigger car.
